Psychotherapy Requires Once per Week Sessions at Minimum

Psychotherapy is an open-ended process that depends on the quality of the relationship between the patient and the therapist. If one is doing psychoanalytic therapy, ie: insight oriented therapy, the patient and therapist need to meet at least once a week for regularity and continuity.

Progress in therapy is very dependent on regularity and continuity. We still know very little about how the unconscious works, however, based on my almost 40 years experience, I believe that weekly sessions are imperative for the integration of unconscious and conscious processes.
